Itinerary
Day 1: Luang Prabang Arrival, City Tour & Local Markets
Upon arriving at Luang Prabang Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel where you can check-in and rest. In the afternoon, explore Vat Mai Temple, which served as the residence of a Buddhist patriarch until 1975. Afterward, climb Phousi Hill for a breath-taking view of the former Royal capital and the Mekong River. As the sun sets, head to Vat Phabath Tai and take in the stunning sunset views along the Mekong River. Afterward, explore the local H’Mong market and browse through the different handicrafts and souvenirs the city offers. Later, after dinner, head to the night market and browse through the wide variety of local items. Finally, stroll through the illuminated streets of the old city and take in the tranquil atmosphere of the city.
Day 2: Mekong River Cruise, Pak Ou Caves, Ban Xang Hei Village, Wat Xieng Thong Temple & National Museum
After breakfast, jump on board a traditional riverboat for a two-hour cruise up the Mekong River and head towards Pak Ou, the junction of the Nam Ou and the Mekong Rivers. On the journey, you will visit Ban Xang Hai village, where sticky rice wine is distilled. At Pak Ou, you can explore the famous and sacred caves of Tham Ting and Tham Phoum, which are home to hundreds of Buddha statues. Afterwards, you’ll return to Luang Prabang and visit the National Museum (formerly the Royal Palace), where you can marvel at the collection of artifacts from the Lao Royal Family. You can also take a tuk-tuk ride to the majestic Vat Xieng Thong temple, renowned as the most beautiful temple in the city. Its low-sweeping roofs gorgeous, gilded reliefs and unique carvings amongst its beams make it a sight to behold. Before heading back to your accommodation for the evening, you’ll also visit Wat That Luang, where a gleaming golden stupa awaits.
